What to Do After Online Financial Fraud in Pakistan

Act through trusted channels as soon as continuing loss is suspected: contact the relevant bank, wallet, exchange or platform; secure unaffected accounts; preserve the original transaction and communication record; and assess the appropriate NCCIA, banking-complaint or legal route. A report does not itself assure a freeze, investigation or recovery, and the correct sequence depends on the transaction, institution and available evidence.

Confidential preliminary intake. Submission does not create a lawyer-client relationship or protect a deadline.

Information, not advice: This guide is general. Current instruments, facts, documents and jurisdiction must be checked for a specific matter.
Practical scope

Immediate containment

  • Use a trusted number or official app to notify the bank, card issuer, wallet, exchange or payment provider; do not rely on contact details supplied by the suspected fraudster.
  • Ask the institution what protective action and complaint reference it can provide. Do not represent that a freeze, reversal or refund is certain.
  • Secure the connected email, mobile number and unaffected accounts using an uncompromised device where reasonably possible.
  • Stop further voluntary payments and do not pay a person claiming that an advance fee will unlock, trace or recover funds.
  • If physical danger or an immediate threat exists, contact the appropriate emergency or public authority; this website is not an emergency service.
Practical scope

Evidence checklist

  • Transaction date, time, amount, beneficiary, account or wallet references and the institution’s complaint number
  • Complete messages, emails, call logs, usernames, profile URLs, advertisements and platform order records
  • Bank statements, payment confirmations, card or wallet notifications and disputed-transaction notices
  • Original files, screenshots and exports retained without cropping or overwriting the only copy
  • A dated chronology separating what was observed from what is inferred
  • NCCIA, police, bank, platform or other acknowledgement and follow-up references
Practical scope

Potential reporting routes

  • The financial institution or payment provider is often an urgent first route where a payment channel or account remains at risk.
  • NCCIA publishes an online complaint route, complaint guidance and Cybercrime Reporting Centre information. The applicable process and need for verification should be checked on the current official pages.
  • The State Bank of Pakistan’s Sunwai information describes routes through banks, microfinance banks, development finance institutions and the appropriate second forum.
  • Banking Mohtasib jurisdiction and preconditions are specific. Do not assume that it covers every institution, transaction or matter already before another forum.
  • Platform, civil, criminal, regulatory or court pathways can overlap but serve different purposes; they should be sequenced against the evidence and urgency.
Practical scope

Common mistakes

  • Deleting or editing the only message thread after taking one screenshot
  • Continuing to communicate or transfer funds without recording the risk
  • Sharing passwords, OTPs, recovery codes, seed phrases or private keys with a purported investigator or recovery agent
  • Posting allegations or sensitive evidence publicly before legal and safety implications are assessed
  • Assuming a complaint automatically proves attribution, compels a freeze or produces recovery
  • Sending complete financial or identity records through a public website or ordinary WhatsApp message
Practical scope

Limits and urgency

  • Recovery depends on facts, authorisation, speed, institutions, counterparties, jurisdiction, available assets and lawful powers.
  • Different complaint and court routes may have matter-specific timing requirements. The authentic transaction and notice record should be reviewed promptly.
  • Legal Bridge LLP does not hold funds, operate an exchange, perform wallet recovery, guarantee tracing or promise any institutional or court outcome.

General information

Questions and careful answers

Should the bank or NCCIA be contacted first?

There is no universal sequence. Where a financial channel remains exposed, urgent notice to the institution may be important while the appropriate NCCIA and legal route is assessed.

Are screenshots enough evidence?

Screenshots may help, but complete exports, original files, transaction records, URLs, device context and institution records may also matter.

Can a payment always be reversed?

No. Reversal depends on the payment type, authorisation, institution, timing, counterparties and applicable process.

Should a victim pay an online recovery agent?

Treat unsolicited recovery promises with caution. Never disclose credentials or transfer more funds without independently verifying the person, service and legal basis.

What should be sent through the consultation form?

Only non-confidential routing facts, parties and any known deadline. Wait for a secure document-sharing method before sending evidence or financial records.
