Which law and forum are relevant?
Pakistan and the country of execution. Consular, notarisation, authentication, apostille and Pakistan-side use requirements vary by route and location.
Do not start with a generic unlimited form. First identify what the attorney must lawfully do: collect a document, appear in a proceeding, manage property, sign a transfer, operate a business matter or complete another defined act. The document should grant no more authority than is necessary.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes attestation guidance, and Pakistan missions publish local requirements. NADRA and MOFA also operate a digital power-of-attorney service for eligible overseas Pakistanis. Mission-specific documents, witnesses, biometrics, photographs, fees and appointments may differ.
Execution abroad is not always the final step. The attorney in Pakistan may need verification, stamping, registration, filing or acceptance by the particular registrar, court, authority, bank or record office. The receiving forum’s requirements should be checked before execution.
A controlled way to approach the issue.
- Define the authorised act
Identify the property, proceeding, company, document or transaction and limit powers to the work genuinely required.
- Check the receiving forum
Confirm what the Pakistan court, registrar, authority, bank or office will require before the document is drafted.
- Choose the execution route
Compare the relevant Pakistan mission process with the NADRA–MOFA digital route where eligible.
- Prepare identity and witness records
Follow the current route-specific requirements for the executant, attorney and witnesses.
- Complete Pakistan-side formalities
Arrange verification, stamping, registration or filing required for the intended use without delay.
Records commonly needed for preliminary review.
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Executant | Current passport and CNIC, NICOP or POC as applicable. |
| Attorney | Accurate Pakistan identity and contact information. |
| Witnesses | Identity and contact information required by the selected route. |
| Underlying matter | Property, court, company or transaction records that define the authority. |
| Draft instrument | A specific, internally consistent power of attorney with safeguards and revocation provisions. |
Risks that can weaken the position.
- Using a broad form without identifying the asset or act
- Drafting before checking the receiving office
- Following guidance from the wrong Pakistan mission
- Missing route-specific witness, biometric or identity requirements
- Delaying Pakistan-side verification or registration

Is the online power-of-attorney route available to every person?
Eligibility and requirements should be checked on the official NADRA–MOFA platform and with the relevant Pakistan mission. Foreign nationals or particular circumstances may require a different route.
Can the attorney sell property under any power of attorney?
Only if the document lawfully and clearly grants the relevant authority and the receiving property system accepts the form and formalities.
Should the original be couriered immediately?
First confirm the Pakistan-side recipient, security, tracking and whether a digital verification or other step is required.
